The Port of Noumea (via the Havannah, Dumbea or Boulari Passages) is the only Port of Entry for New Caledonia. See New Caledonia/Formalities page for detailed information on Clearance, Immigration and Customs.
Following violent protests in May 2024 the political situation in the country is reported to be stable and yachts are again welcome to visit. See Security for more info
On approaching Noumea, call Port Moselle Marina or Port du Sud marina on VHF Channel 67, giving the vessel name, length and last port of call and stating that you would like to clear in when possible. The Q flag and a French courtesy flag should be flown.
Skippers who have a confirmed advance booking at Port Moselle Marina and arrive on a weekend are now able to clear in on weekends with Biosecurity officials and then complete formalities with customs and immigration on the following Monday. See this News item – Update on Weekend Clearance (May 2025) for more information.
Vessels without a confirmed booking and which arrive on a weekend must anchor out and wait till Monday to undertake clearance formalities.
Berth at the visitor pontoon (marked with a yellow cross) at Port Moselle marina or at Port du Sud marina, or anchor just outside Port Moselle (out of the shipping channels) and dinghy into the marina office, who will assist with clearance procedures. Everyone must remain on board until clearance formalities have been completed.
If arriving at night, anchor in the anchorage in Baie de Moselle, outside the marina breakwater. Take care, as there are often many unlit boats anchored in the bay.
