Located at the mouth of the Kelantan River, Kota Bharu is the capital of the state of Kelantan and a conservative city with Islamic influences due to the Islamic majority party which has been in power in the state for many years. These Islamic influences are still clearly visible in the daily street life and in the vibrant markets and mosques.
Khota Bahru is also the closest city to the Thailand/Malaysia border.
The city has many traditional markets, museums and mosques and is gateway to the tropical island of Perhentian.
