Puerto de Vita - Docking

Approach
The entrance channel to the port is narrow but well marked. If help is required to navigate up the channel, call for assistance on VHF channel 13 or 16.
Marina
The marina is very well sheltered, even in a hurricane. It is small, however, with approx. 10 slips for transient yachts, all Med mooring, some with your own anchor.
The marina is rather isolated so a hire car is probably a good idea for re-provisioning and getting around. Obtaining food in the next town (Sta. Lucia) is possible on a limited scale. Holquin is 20km away.
Diesel is available and some repairs are possible. Marina management speaks good English.
Note: Marina Puerto de Vita is on the OFAC list of banned marinas and American citizens are prohibited from spending money to stay there. See this report for more information.
Anchoring
There is also an anchorage with a water taxi service.

We arrived on Sunday afternoon and checked in Monday morning at Puerto de Vita. Our 44-foot catamaran will cost 33 cups per day including water and electricity.
We are glad to have the electricity so we can close up the cabin and run air conditioning at dawn and dusk. The no see ems are ferocious! The staff is friendly and helpful.
We have met many wonderful people in the village. Check in was easy, docking was smooth, the dock itself is in very good condition. They use a med-moor system. Depth is 10+ feet.

I left Varadero a few days ago on the back of Matthew and SAILED to Puerto Vita and then halfway to Ocean World, DR before having to motor!!!
Here are a few price updates for anyone interested – they are bang up to date and based on my boat which is a 40′ cat:
Haul and launch in Varadero – 750 cups (very professional and safe)
Long term storage on the hard Varadero- 180 cups/month
New in water dockage rate Marina Gaviota- 41 cups/day Inc power & water
Diesel – 1 cup/litre
Excellent mechanic (removed, rebuilt and refitted both my Volvo Penta engines!) – 12 cups/hr
Dockage or anchorage at Puerto Vita (you have to pay either way) – 20 cups/day
Fuel is available – 1 cups/litre
