Luganville - Boatyards

Aug 24, 2023

As of 15/03/2017, unfortunately, the NICON Shipyard in Santo closed it’s doors indefinitely. For reasons unknown they did not manage to develop the facility and were unable to get their travel lift and associated travel lift dock installed and operational.

There is talk of a different new 1000 ton facility (mainly aimed at servicing the large Chinese fishing vessel fleet and also Vanuatu island traders) that are currently being planned for Santo, however, it's still on the negotiating table with the Government, investors, landowners etc. without a clear timeline for construction and completion.

There is now a slipway on Aore Island just to the south of Espiritu Santo. It can cater for monohulls and cats to 22 metres and 30 tons. It will be undergoing major renovation during 2018 but will be kept in operation as much as possible whilst this goes on.
