Niuatoputapu Island Clearance for Yachts

For full details on clearing into and out of Tonga see Noonsite's Tonga Formalities pages.

General Procedure for Niuatoputapu Island

Ensure you send the mandatory 24-hour pre-arrival form to Tonga Customs - info@customs.gov.to before you arrive.  However, you may not get a reply.

Customs is in Vaipoa near the Police Station.  Ask for Onesi - kaufoouonesi74@gmail.com.  Customs organises the check-in process with Immigration, Health and Biosecurity.

The check in process will take place on your boat at anchor in Falehau and you will need to ferry the officials by dinghy.

The Clearance Fee is approximately 125 Tongan Pa'anga.  Note:  There is no foreign currency exchange on the island so you will need local currency for all fees and purchases on the island.

Niuatoputapu Island can be a good option for clearing into Tonga if coming from Samoa or points north. Cruisers report the process is easy and low-key.
