COMMS ALERT: A number of communications issues in Tonga are having a serious impact on cruisers. Not only has Starlink been shut down, but the undersea fibre has been damaged and repairs are not expected until at least August 2024. Digicel currently has limited service only. Description:

Niuafo’ou is in the most northerly group of Tongan islands and is an active volcano. At the center of the island is a huge lake of bubbling water. The coast is steep and rocky with just a few black sand beaches. It is famous for its special postal stamps.
