Castries town, the capital of Saint Lucia, is 8 miles/ 30 minutes by bus from Rodney Bay. There are more local-style shops here and a morning market.

Activities and Attractions:

Diving: Some of the best diving in Saint Lucia is off the Pitons and around Soufriere. Most of the dive shops in Rodney Bay will offer trips to this area. Expect to pay around US $85 for a single tank dive and US $130 for a 2 tank dive.

Old Naval fortifications at Pigeon Island (joined by a causeway) are easily reached from Rodney Bay by road or dinghy (dock by Jambe de Bois restaurant).

Nearby Gros Islet is good place to visit on Friday nights.

Pigeon Island National Landmark: Whilst this is a great place to learn about St. Lucia's history at the museum, it's also a beautiful place to enjoy a nice stroll with incredible views from Fort Rodney followed by a sundowner at one of the little shoreside bars. Please pay park fees to the Ranger ($ 20EC = $ 10 US) to help support the St. Lucia National Trust.

Castries (the Capital)has an extensive market (best on Saturdays), good supermarkets and buildings of interest around the Derek Walcot Square.

Marigot Bay has dock space or mooring buoys or you can anchor inside the buoyed entrance channel. Diving and fishing is regulated by CMMA and SMMA organizations who operate mooring buoys.

Soufriere is an interesting old French town with weathered wooden structures and gingerbread trim. Varied choice of eating and shopping here and snorkeling off Soufriere is excellent. The Diamond Botanical garden well worth a visit and The Pitons (two tall peaks on St Lucia Southwest shore) are a challenge to climb.

The Pitons provide some of the best diving in Saint Lucia.  Most of the dive shops in Rodney Bay will offer trips to this area.  Expect to pay around US$85 for a single tank dive and US$130 for a two tank dive.
