Shelter Bay Marina has a marina mini-store in site. It stocks a small range of work yard accessories but does not have an extensive range. It is a branch of a larger chandler in Panama City and can get stock items to order.
Seawind Chandlery has limited stock. Tel: +507 433 3664
There is also a TMS (Total Marine Supply) shop - TMS Sail - who now can supply rigging and numerous other parts.
Novey Hardware is located in the Millenian Plaza just after leaving Colon in the direction of Sabanitas.
Specialist items can, of course, be sent FedEx or DHL (yacht in transit status applies) with minimum fuss from the states (or Europe). UPS can be problematic. Colon is a duty-free area, so as a “yacht in transit” one can retrieve equipment from Customs at the airport without too much trouble. It may be easier to use a local agent or contact Customs on arrival in Panama who will advise on procedure. There are daily flights from the US.
Cruisers recommend the Marine Warehouse based in Miami who has a very efficient set-up in Panama and can deliver to Shelter Bay Marina. Email tom@marinewarehouse.net. Their local representative, Arturo, delivers to Shelter Bay Marina once the goods arrive in Panama; no extra taxes are due and freights costs are reasonable unless express services are required.
You may decide that a dehumidifier is essential in the Panamian climate as boats without will be covered in the mold within days during the rainy season! Shelter Bay Marina rents them for $55/month.
