Cabo San Lucas - Facts

Sep 17, 2022

Description:

Cabo San Lucas is a major port and tourism centre for the southern Baja peninsula. This is a great port to provision and prepare for cruising the Gulf of California or as a jumping-off point either southbound or northbound on the Pacific Coast.

There is a regular cruising rally that ends in Cabo San Lucas each year known as the Baja Ha-Ha. It departs from San Diego (California, USA) and approximately coincides with the ARC. (It is an independent organization and is not affiliated with the WCC.)

Cabo San Lucas is susceptible to occasional hurricane activity. Hurricane Odile (Cat 4), in 2014, caused more than US$1 billion in damages. The most active period for Pacific tropical storms in this area is the same as the North Atlantic Hurricane Season (approximately June 1 - Oct 31).

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

It is not advisable to approach Marina Cabo San Lucas early mornings on weekends as a large sports-fishing fleet will leave between 6 am and 9 am.

Following the impact of recent hurricanes, cruising boats heading south this winter should be aware of debris in the water, missing navigation marks, hurricane damage to docks and limited berth availability.
