Where is Great Harbour?

Great Harbour lies in the southern coast of Jost Van Dyke and is a Port of Entry. It is the largest bay on the island of Jost Van Dyke and is a popular anchorage.

Great Harbour Entrance Notes and Cautions:

The entrance is straight-forward but keep to the center line to ensure you avoid the large reef that extends 300 yards from the beach.

Great Harbour Cruiser Highlights:

Groceries, Fuel as well as some nice restaurants and bars.

Great Harbour Security:

As with many places in the Caribbean, dinghy theft is rife.  CSSN continue to get reports of dinghies being stolen that have been left in the water behind boats and not locked or made secure to deter potential theft.  They are easy targets for thieves who simply cut lines and make off with the dinghy/outboard.  Thefts have been reported at places all around the island including Great Harbour, Diamond Cay and White Bay.  Unfortunately, leaving your dinghy in the water, but chain locking it, is not proving to be a deterrent for thieves.

Be sure to lift and lock your dinghy whether at anchor or on a mooring.  It is also advisable to secure your dinghy when going ashore.   See BVI Security Reports and CSSN for information on the latest incidents.

The Caribbean Safety and Security Net (CSSN) says the presence of AirTags and some other cell based/Bluetooth tracking devices are designed to discourage unwanted tracking and can be quickly and easily detected and located by thieves. Be certain you fully understand the limitations of these devices when attaching to dinghies/outboards.  See this incident report from Jost van Dyke.
