Salvador de Bahia - Activities, Attractions & Shopping

Jun 09, 2025

The Port of Salvador contains an African-Brazilian school of dance. Every Tuesday, visitors can enjoy a percussion festival in the streets of Olodum Blessing when three squares serve as stages for local music groups.

Nor to be missed is the lively scene in the square, Terreiro de Jesus, in the center of the upper city. Here you will find food carts and vendor stalls in the day and a lively crowd at night.

See additional report from yacht Miz Mae (July 2002).

Or take your boat up the Paraguaçu river to the fishing village of Maragojipe (30m in total from Salvador with the 5m draft). Here you will find an activity company "Soniva" run by Belgian yachtsman Ivan. He can organize tours into the interior, and help with any problems, speaking English, French, Dutch, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

Find out more at his website - soniva.ixtro.net, or reach him on VHF Ch. 72 on arrival in Maragojipe. E-mail soniva@ixtro.net, Tel: +55 719 252 2122.
