Docking is side-tie to a concrete wall but there are exposed metal rings protruding from the walls and black tyres will mark your vessel so cruisers advised using a board between your fenders.
The cement factory which for so many years created a lot of problems for cruising boats visiting here, is now gone. Cruisers report that the harbour, although protected, suffers from surge and there will be a lot of movement so you will need to find a way to prevent dock lines chafing on the concrete wall. It is also recommended to find a way of preventing rats climbing your lines.
Space for visiting yachts is located in the inner harbour.

Currently, about 10-12 yachts can be moored inside this harbour. When it is full, yachts are given spaces alongside vacant piers.
The northern wall suffers greatly from surge and can become untenable. The eastern wall is better, but as tucked into the starboard corner as possible. The western again suffers from surge and because it is higher your lines will chafe. The remaining southerly wall is the best choice with a Med moor. You will be across the wind so make sure that you (and your neighbours) have plenty of chains out.
Mooring is only permitted in the inner harbour (mooring buoys elsewhere have been removed). The Fisheries Quay (in the north of the inner harbour), is restricted to berthing for fisherman only.
Anchoring is possible between Closenburg Pier and the middle pier.
The harbour is open 24/7 but is busiest between 0600-1000 when the fishing boats return, the whale watchers leave and the fish market opens. Repair services available.

Power is available but expensive and must be requested via your agent. Water is fine for washing and laundry but not recommended for drinking unless you have a filtration system. YOu will need to ask your agent to arrange a meter to connect to water at a cost of US$12/tonne.
Surge protectors are recommended if connecting to shore power. US$450/month.
Contact your agent to arrange fuel and rubbish disposal.
With 24-hour security and guards at the entry gates, the port of Galle is very secure. Security clearance document is required to get in and out of the gates. The guards who patrol the grounds may ask for cigarettes or alcohol, but cruisers recommend not doing this as it makes it difficult for cruisers who follow.
Taxis/tuk-tuks are not allowed to pass the checkpoint. The tuk-tuk drivers can be very helpful if you are trying to source something.
See General Info for local companies who can assist with travel arrangements, provisioning, laundry, taxi service and local advice.
These reports - have a lot of useful advice for cruisers planning on stopping here.
