This is a very nice and very well sheltered bay. It’s very shallow but we could go in with our 45 feet sailing yacht with a draft of 2,20 meters. We stayed 3 nights in the marina because we were waiting for spare parts for the generator. We ended up staying more than a week and really liked it. Jose Mendez in the marina is a super nice and very helpful person.

When we anchored out in the bay we still had pretty good internet in the boat. We stayed in Boucheron before going here, but we liked Puerto Real more. You can’t really swim in the bay which is a minus, but there are really nice beaches a dinghy ride away.

We had a great experience at Marina Pescaderia. We arrived late, having been turned away by the yacht club at Boquerón, and the owner of the marina offered to let us tie up at his fuel dock overnight, which we did. We topped off our fuel ($2.79 per gal. vs. $6 in Turks & Caicos!) and water (no charge!) and he actually loaned us a car and driver to take us the 1.5 miles to our restaurant in Cabo Rojo! The marina is in good condition and about 70% occupied, unlike some of the larger and better-known marinas in Puerto Rico.

The owner later came and joined us for a beer at the restaurant, filling us in on the area and the Mona Passage, which we were planning to cross the next day. The charge for docking was a very reasonable $1 a foot, and the owner is eager to welcome more transient boaters. We would have stayed longer but had plans to meet friends in the Dominican Republic.
