Baleeira (Sagres) - Docking

Apr 25, 2017

On approach, beware of the fishing nets.

This anchorage provides shelter from strong northerly winds but is exposed to easterlies.

Anchor north of the two jetties in about 6m. Bottom is sandy, but rocky in places so choose your spot carefully. Alternatively, tuck in behind the seawall.

The Ilhas do Martinhal Diving School (near the jetty) may have a mooring buoy free which can be used.

There are often northerly squalls during the afternoon.

You can dinghy ashore here to explore the small, but isolated town. Some restaurants, bars and provisions can be found ashore.

Fuel can be obtained from the fuel station up the hill in the town. A taxi back with the jerry cans costs very little.
