The climate is equatorial with temperatures generally between the high 20sC and mid 30sC. The island is not often affected by tropical cyclones.
Easterly trades predominate for most of the year when the harbour is in the lee of the island. However the westerly monsoons blow during the wet season from November to April and these westerly winds can gust up to 45 knots at times with rain squalls frequently
experienced.
