Mauritius Yachting Essentials

Electricity

  • Voltage: 230 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz

Water

The water quality is mostly safe, but it is not always up to international standards. Because tap water quality in Mauritius is largely dependent on the village locale, bottled water is recommended.

LPG (Gas)

Latest reports from cruisers are that getting gas refills here is almost impossible due to lack of demand. Local Gas bottle swap is still an option.

Fuel

If headed to Reunion, be sure to fuel up in Mauritius before leaving. Prices in Reunion are noticeably more expensive.

Getting work done

Mauritius has a choice of reasonable quality contractors. There are chandleries, a good sailmaker as well as a good rigger.

Parts and equipment

Parts not available locally may be ordered and quickly shipped from the US or Europe via FedEx, UPS, or DHL or other carriers. Yachts in transit are not subject to the 15% VAT but customs clearance and delivery fees may add up to more than that amount. Talk to the courier company before your parts arrive to decide whether you wish to pay the vat or the customs clearance fees.

Provisioning

Several large hypermarkets with international brands. Prices are reasonable.
