Anchoring in Palmerston

There are no moorings available on Palmerston.

Sailing vessels must anchor at the anchorage off the Small Passage, on the west side of the island (the leeside).

The anchorage has a depth of 30-50ft, a coral bottom extending away from the fringing reef. By choosing your spot carefully, you could swing 360 degrees without problems.  However, cruisers advise not to anchor without local knowledge or assistance.

Always call Palmerston Island Administration on VHF Channel 16 with an approximate time of arrival on approach and you will be guided as to which buoy to pick up, or where to anchor.

Individual host families will assist with with transport to and from shore (and negotiate a price) and sometimes may request petrol.
