Arutanga Port - Aitutaki is currently one of two authorised ports of entry for the Cook Islands – the other is – Avatiu Port, Rarotonga.
See Cook Islands Formalities for complete clearance information.
All vessels must anchor outside the harbour and request permission before coming ashore. Officials are not happy with vessels coming into the harbour at night without permission.
Once anchored the captain should come ashore to clear in.
The Customs & Immigration officer may come out to the boat or you may check with him at his office, in the post office building. There is a departure tax per person to pay (on departure) and a daily anchoring fee. See the Cook Islands/Fees section for more information.
The health officer will contact you too for pratique (his office is on the other side of the island) for which there is a fee. He will come on board and spray the boat for insects and collect the Biosecurity fees and duty at the same time.
Note that if you arrive at the weekend, you will be charged overtime fees for clearance including from health and customs.
