Fishing is strictly prohibited within the boundaries of the marine reserve called THE RIP which is located on the southeast end of Direction Island. Fishing is restricted to the west of the jetty, away from the popular swimming area. For the sake of conservation please take only what you need.

September 2015:
Currently, no quarantine rubbish (i.e.anything not bought in Cocos) is permitted to be disposed of in any of the Cocos islands. Apparently, an incineration facility is planned for the future. Yachts are expected to take their rubbish away with them.
