Cape Verdes - Money

Aug 19, 2025

Cape Verde escudo (CVEsc) of 100 centavos.

Euros and escudos are used as equal means of payment (at a rate of 1:100).

Local currency cannot be imported or exported. Foreign currency must be declared on arrival and departure.

Credit cards (usually Visa only) are not widely accepted. Do check if planning to pay that way. A fee will be added.

Most ATM's (if they are working!) accept Visa cards.

Be prepared, prices for food are comparable to European prices, sometimes even more expensive! A welcome exception is diesel fuel.
