Description:

The Port of Itajaí is the main port of the state of Santa Catarina, and the second largest in Brazil in terms of the movement of containers. In 2019 it was nominated the nautical capital of the state. In 2013 it was chosen as the arrival port for the Transat Jacques Vabre and was chosen as a host port for the Volvo Ocean Race for 3 editions in a row.

Located 24 kms (15 miles) north of Porto Belo, this is a very welcoming port and a much cheaper alternative for in-town berthing than in Porto Belo.

Cruiser Highlights:

Developing city; safe; good marine infrastructure; good for repairs with an extensive boat-building and repair industry mostly catering to wooden and steel fishing boats and a boatyard and travelift at the marina; airport 10km from port; easy car access; many beautiful beaches; extensive rural areas; stunning natural scenery; friendly locals.

Entrance Notes:

To arrive at the area where it’s possible for visiting yachts to berth in Itajai, you have to follow the river for about a mile.

Position:

26° 54.75′S, 48° 37.88′W (river entrance)

26º 54.38'S, 48º 39.13'W (marina)
