See Brazil Formalities for full details on clearing into and out of Brazil.
It is now fairly easy to check in and out of Brazil here, although the 3 offices you have to visit (Policia Federal, Customs and Capatania) are rather spread out so you will need to use buses or taxis.
If intending to simply clear here, the easiest place to anchor is in Jurere or in the south (good protection from southerlies at Praia Caiacanga) and bus/uber into town.
The Policia Federal officer in charge of clearing in and out has moved to an annex office (called NEPOM). It is located between the two bridges on the continent side, next to the Capitania dos Portos. Lunch break from 12-1: 30 pm. The Policia Federal must be visited first.
Next, go to the Receita Federal (Customs) on the other side of the bridge located close to the center of town at the corner of Av Paulo Fontes and Rua Hoepcke. The man in charge, Ricardo Krzyzanowski, speaks good English and is very helpful. They will want to see the form from the Policia Federal.
Finally, head back across the bridge to the Capitania who is available for clearance procedures at all hours. He will need to see the Receita Federal document. He speaks some English and it might be possible to obtain a 'Escalas proviso' which will permit visiting other Brazilian ports without clearing in each time.
The closest alternative clearance ports are Itajai or Imbituba.
