Visiting yachts are permitted to anchor along the shore between the harbor and the twin islands of Dois Irmaos. The best place to anchor is in Baia de Santo Antonio (3°49.84'S 32°24.52'W) itself, as it provides easy access to the small harbor and provides some relief from the swell. It is recommended to anchor well clear of local moorings and not to get too close to shore where the effects of the swell can be felt more.
Another recommended place is at 3°50.027’S 32°24.487’W. Cruisers who anchored here said it is a bit deeper that other places in the anchorage and was a bit more comfortable in a northerly swell.
Anchor in 12 to 18m over sand (and rock).
The anchorage is rolly and a stop is not recommended when the large swell comes from the NE to N and even more so from the NW. At these times breaking waves come into the harbor making dinghy rides challenging. The officials have been known to close the port in an NW swell. Even with an SE swell you can expect some roll.
A night time arrival is not recommended due to the anchorage being substantially larger than shown on charts and with many mooring balls with long lines trailing behind.
Talk to the Harbour Master and ask him if and where you can anchor outside the main anchorage, as the rules vary.
Note: Scuba diving is only permitted with local operators.
Many cruisers rent buggies to explore the island and beautiful spots can be visited without having to pay the park entrance fee. Many restaurants are expensive and the most reasonable are those located close to the dinghy dock.
