Electricity

  • Voltage: 115V
  • Frequency: 60 Hz

Fuel

Propane is referred to as ‘cooking gas’ in Trinidad and is not pure propane. Camping gas is Butane.

RAMCO (the company that fills the bottles) requires all propane tanks older than 5 years be pressure tested prior to filling. The charge for this may be $100TT or more, plus the cost of any replacement parts. It could take an extra week for this to be done. If there is any problem with the tank or fittings, it may be cheaper to buy a new one.

At all boatyards and marinas have your boat name and location clearly marked on the tank when leaving it for a refill. Payment is normally made in advance but checks with the refill service you are using first.

Refer to each port for details of where to obtain LPG.

Getting Work Done

There are 3 main boatyards, all of which offer haulout services: Peake Yacht Services, Power Boats, and Coral Cove.

In general, Coral Cove is seen as the cheaper option, but the other 2 offer more services and have better facilities. The Trinidad Cruisers Facebook group is a good place for recommendations.

Provisions

Provisons are more limited in Charlotteveille.

Good range of supermarkets and markets in Scarborough and Store Bay is the best on Tobago.

On Trinidad, most things are available in Chaguaramas and there are several large shopping malls between the Trinidad & Tobago YC and Port of Spain.
