Charlotteville - Activities, Attractions & Shopping

Sep 10, 2024

There is very little shopping in Charlotteville. There are a few stalls along the beachfront selling local crafts.

Argyle Waterfall: Located just outside the village of Roxborough on the Scarbrough Road. There are three waterfalls here (although the bottom one is the best to bathe in).

Admission is $30TT and this includes the cost of a guide who will take you to the falls. There are also toilets/changing facilities and a small bar selling drinks and snacks.

Open every day.

Little Tobago

This offshore island is home to one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the Caribbean. The Red-Billed Tropicbirds are spectacular from October to June.

Tours to the 450-acre sanctuary depart from Speyside village and you can arrange tours with the local fishermen or a local tour guide. The crossing normally passes via Goat Island. This island is said to have once been the holiday home of James Bond creator, Ian Fleming, however, the author was not known to have owned an island..... At one time it offered luxury accommodation to visitors but is now derelict.

Flagstaff Hill:

This is one of the highest points on the island, where you can get great views of Charlotteville and a nice cooling breeze. Located down an un-surfaced track on the crest (350m) of the hill behind Charlotteville, Flagstaff Hill was an American military lookout and radio tower during World War II.

Tobago's rain forest reserve is just 20 minutes car ride away. Various operators organize trails and birdwatching trips.

The Gilpin Trail is on the main Roxborough-Parlatourvier road and is clearly marked on free maps which are available at Store Bay Marine Services. This is a trail which takes you through the rainforest.

Pirates Bay: Take the path by turning left as you come off the dock. Follow it over the hill before taking a left down the steps to Pirates Bay. Beautiful, secluded spot but it has no facilities. It is also possible to swim here from the main anchorage at Charlotteville.

Cambleton Battery: Located a 20-minute walk west of Charlotteville. Beautifully maintained and landscaped by a local family. The site offers spectacular views over Charlotteville on one side, and Hermitage Bay on the other.
