Tanga - Docking

Feb 06, 2025

The Tanga Yacht Club has made many improvements for visiting yachts and is very welcoming to visitors with tasty indian food and pizza on offer as well as a pool table and free WiFi.

There is a fee for the use of the facilities (see their business listing) and a secure dinghy dock. There is now the possibility for drying out on careening poles, although it is wise to bring one's own antifouling, as Tanzania itself produces only low-quality paint.

The anchorage off the yacht club (pictured below, courtesy of Jack Hunt) offers good holding, is very safe, security wise and offers good protection especially in southerly winds. During the summer months, when the kaskazi (northerly) winds blow strong, Tanga's anchorage can be a bit uncomfortable, but never alarmingly so. The holding is excellent, in soft-ish mud.

Visiting cruisers are very welcome and many have stayed at anchor here for extended periods.

Monthly Fees (July 2024):

  • 100,000 TZS per solo sailor
  • 200,000 TZS per crewed / family vessels
