Kamień Pomorski is a pretty town with a marina situated eight kms (five miles) from the Baltic Sea on the Kamieński Lagoon. The marina is one of the biggest and most modern in Poland and well situated with quick access to the Szczecin Goleniów international airport and a two and a half hour drive from Poznan and Berlin.
Kamień Pomorski Marina (see photo, courtesy of Mateusz Stodulski) is part of the West Pomeranian Sailing Route which includes over 20 harbors and marinas along the West Pomeranian Baltic Coast. It opened in 2015.
The name of the town is derived from an enormous boulder which can be found in the Kamieński Lagoon near the northern shore of Chrząszczewska Island. The boulder referred to as “królewski", is 20 meters in girth and around three meters above water level. It was carried by a Pleistocene Glacier from Scandinavia around 10,000 years ago.
Today, the town is popular for spa tourism with its saline water springs, iodite-bromide-chloridic springs and therapeutic mud discovered more than one hundred years ago.
