Almost the whole of the Hel Peninsula is former military base, not in use anymore. There are many vast fortifications - German and Polish - which you can visit. There you will find a very interesting Museum of Coastal Defence (http://helmuzeum.pl) In August very interesting reenactment event called “The D-Day Hel” takes place.
There is a nice view from Hel lighthouse which is open for visiting from May till September.
