Puerto Galera (Mindoro) - Facts

Apr 30, 2024

Description:

Puerto Galera is at the NW tip of the province of Oriental Mindoro. It is located at the SW end of the Isla Verde Passage, about 130 kilometers south of Manila. It's a popular tourist destination with many beautiful "pocket" beaches and dive spots and stunning mountain scenery.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

There are power cables which stretch across the North Channel/Batangas Channel into Puerto Galera Harbour.  The East end of the power cables are located in Barangay Dalaruan while the West end are situated on Medio Island.  The vertical clearance is estimated to be 40 feet above water. The cables are not lit and have no obvious markings or warning signs,  Tall vessels should enter and exit Puerto Galera via the West Channel/Manila Channel.

Security:

Be cautious if stopping on your way to Puerto Galera. A popular bad weather shelter before rounding the Cape on the NW point of Mindoro is Paluan Bay. A cruising couple were boarded by armed men and robbed at gunpoint here in February 2013. Cruisers are advised to stay away from this bay and be wary of anyone approaching your boat at night.

Position:

13°30.2'N, 120°57.0'E (Puerto Galera yacht club dock)
