Docking in Port Moresby

The main business and shopping district lies about 3 miles (5km) from the coast.

The Royal Papua Yacht Club

The Royal Papua Yacht Club has its own marina with 24-hour security. They have recently added new berths and have 256 in total. There are two supermarkets nearby. Transport arrangements can be made with the club to enable the purchase of ships stores. Note: If visiting RPYC, it is recommended to phone ahead on (675) 3211700 and make a booking.

Anchoring in Port Moresby

Alternatively, one may anchor in the "Duck Pond" which has a constant depth of three meters. The holding is excellent once the surface is penetrated and the anchor is dug in. The bottom is a mixture of coral sand and muddy clay. If planning to anchor long term the RPYC recommend a fisherman anchor with chain rode, however CQRs and various copies and some of the newer anchors have been used successfully for relative long term mooring. The Duck Pond is well protected by a groin, but windage can have an effect.

Security for Port Moresby

Anchoring and security at the marina and clubhouse is good 24 hours.
