Sports Facilities

Golf: Visitors welcome at the Niue Golf and Sports Club. Compact nine-hole golf course.

Bike: A new network of cycle tracks have been established for mountain bike enthusiasts. Niue is 250 km square with the highest point only 80 metres. A ring road of 68 km that is mainly sealed plus cross-island roads in good condition gives plenty of scopes to explore the myriad of snorkeling spots. Bike hire is available on the island.

Scuba: One of the main attraction of Niue is the clarity of water. With underwater visibility at least 40 metres, and humpback whales and calves here from July through to September, it is scuba diver's paradise. Whales and their calves are often found right in the mooring field basking on the surface, and cruisers are kept awake at night with the whale's singing to one another.

Attractions

Rainforest walking amongst flocks of butterflies in the virgin rainforest of the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area, should not be missed.

Niue has spectacular underwater caves, as well as land caves that are easier to get to. Tali Magatogia is a local who has been running tours into the caves for many years. Up until the mid-1800s, most Niueans lived in the caves.

Shopping

Supermarkets and stores are located in Alofi and stock a full range of groceries, frozen goods, and hardware.

Most shops are open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday, and a number of the larger stores now open on Saturdays too.

There are generally one or two stores in most villages around the island which open during early mornings or evenings. Some smaller shops are open on weekends for grocery, and residents in the villages will happily direct you to the nearest shop.
