There are four marinas and a number of boatyards offering haul-out and hard-stand facilities. The Okara Marina - is now open on the upper Hatea River, on the seaward/downstream side of the Te Matau ā Pohe bascule bridge.
Whangārei Marina is a unique, river marina positioned in Whangārei Town Basin providing berthage for vessels up to 30 m in length and 3m in draft
Marsden Cove Marina resides in the centre of the Marsden Cove canal housing development, just inside the Whangarei Harbour entrance.
Riverside Drive Marina is a marina with hardstand and haul out facilitiesworking marina in the sheltered waters of the Hatea River just minutes from downtown Whangarei.
Port Nikau is a deep water marina located in the Whangarei Harbour, 12 nautical miles from the harbour entrance. With eight floating pontoons, this facility is suited to cruising vessels with easy on/offloading and access.
All Marinas and the opening bridge operate on VHF Channel 18.
The Riverside and Town Basin marinas are upstream of the Te Matau ā Pohe bascule bridge so you will need to call before hand to arrange for the bridge to be raised. 10 - 15 minutes warning of your impending arrival is OK. If you need to wait for the bridge to be raised, there is a clearly marked channel. Note that the bridge is not raised during peak hour times on weekdays from 7am - 9am and 4pm - 6pm.
