Whangarei - Clearance

Marsden Cove Marina is an approved first point of entry for yachts and other recreational vessels from overseas.  Contact the marina directly to arrange your arrival.

At least 48 hours before arrival contact NZ Customs with your estimated time and place of arrival through one of these methods:

  • call Maritime Radio (ZLM) on 4125kHz or 6215kHz
  • call Russell Radio on VHF Channel 63
  • e-mail yachts@customs.govt.nz

Arrival process for Whangarei - Marsden Cove Marina

  • All vessels must give 48 hours notice before arriving.
  • Contact Marsden Cove Marina on VHF Channel 18 to advise of your arrival
  • Vessels must dock at the designated "Q" Pier on pontoon 'B'. NO ONE IS ALLOWED off the vessel or out of the Customs controlled area until they have been cleared by Customs and Biosecurity.

Biosecurity Requirements

New Zealand is very strict on food and will confiscate meats, fruit, vegetables and honey along with other items.  Before arriving, it is advisable to dispose of all contraband food at least 12 miles offshore.

Protection against Fanworm and other Marine Pests

All boats entering any Northland harbour must have been anti-fouled within the last six months AND have had a bottom wash in the last month. This applies to all boats coming from south of Tutukaka.  See the current Northland Regional Council Requirements and Marine Pest information using the links below.
