Martinique - Communications

International Dialing Code for Martinique is 011 + 596 + phone number (Note that Local code is also 596 or 696 for mobiles).

Mobile Phones:

Local cell phone providers have offices in most towns and you can easily get a SIM card to put in an unlocked cell phone. Coverage is generally pretty good, but far from total. Calls and data are relatively expensive by regional standards. Local cell providers include SFR, Orange and Digicel.

Anyone cruising using Digicel should be aware that if you purchase a SIM card in one country, it cannot be topped up in a different one, as previously possible. So if you wish to use the sim bought here while cruising in other countries, you should either put on a large enough sum to cover your needs, or set up an account and do it online.

You can top-up Digicel at https://online-top-up.digicelgroup.com/

If you have an EU cell phone contract you can call, text and use the internet on European conditions. In July 2017 roaming was abolished in the EU, so that makes calling here very cheap.

Internet:

Wireless (called WLAN locally) is ubiquitous in Martinique and can be found for free at nearly all hotels and guesthouses, as well as in most cafes and restaurants.

Post:

The French postal system is generally efficient and reliable. There are post offices in all major towns.

Cruisers can get parts/spares shipped to Marin Marina Office. You can find the address below. Any cruiser can use this service, it’s not just for marina clients. Be sure to pay the customs fee online or leave an envelope with cash on the marina reception desk so they can collect the parcel when it arrives. You are welcome to call/write email the marina [contact@marina-martinique.fr] to be sure the parcel has arrived before heading to pick it up.
