Description:
Le Marin lies at the head of a deep bay, Le Cul-de-Sac du Marin, on the southern end of Martinique. It is protected by fringing reefs and is a popular destination in the Southern Caribbean for yachts thanks to its excellent yachting infrastructure, mooring fields and large marina. The town of St Anne is at the bay’s entrance.
Cruiser Highlights:
Large cruising community; yachting infrastructure; chandlery; good provisioning; fuel; water; marinas; access to transportation; restaurants and bars; hiking and tourism activities.
Cruising guides, apps and happy-hour chitchat can all be good sources of information for sailors in the Caribbean. Tune into the Le Marin/St. Anne Cruiser Net at 08:30 on VHF Channel 08, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Entrance notes or cautions:
The approach into the Cul-de-Sac du Marin lagoon can be tricky to navigate because of the channel skirts reefs and shallow sand bars. Note: Buoyage is IALA-B (red right returning).
Position:
14° 25’38″N, 60° 55’04″W (entrance to the channel)
14° 26’N, 60° 53’W (St Anne anchorage)
Clearance
See the main Martinique/Formalities page for full details.
General Clearance:
Clearance is possible at the marina office at one of the four computers or you can fill out and print your forms in advance from La Marina Marin’s website. Unless intending to use the marina, arriving boats usually anchor and take their dinghy to one of the marina pontoons.
Alternatively, yachts can anchor at St Anne where there is a clearance computer terminal at the “Snack Boubou” next to the church (see recommendation below in comments). Be careful at the dinghy pontoon here – be sure to use a stern anchor or lift the front of the dinghy out of the water, to prevent it from sliding underneath the dock.

Anchorages:
Authorities are enforcing new 2018 ‘no anchoring’ areas in the traditional hurricane holes (except in the case of hurricane warnings). The areas off-limits will be marked by yellow buoys. Anchorage may still be taken on the western side of the harbour outside of the channel.
Baie des Cyclones (14° 27′ 23” N 61° 52′ 6” W): A well-protected hurricane hole.
St Anne (14° 26′ 6” N 61° 53′ 14” W): Not as well protected as the inner anchorages but the anchorage here is of a small town and while busy, there is plenty of space as it’s very big. Clearance is possible and it’s easy to catch a bus into Marin for provisioning.
There is a concrete dinghy dock in the town and a floating dock in front of the Pirates Bar Restaurant (only open for lunch). It’s a 5 min walk to town from here. There are rubbish bins on both sides of the restaurant. Recycling bins are only available in town.
Le Marin – Est and Ouest (14° 28′ 48” N 61° 52′ 6” W): Close to all the services, can be crowded.
Moorings:
In St Anne and Le Marina, more and more mooring balls are being installed and more are planned. Anchoring is being actively discouraged.
Dinghy Docks:
The two dinghy docks in the marina (near the supermarket, shops, ATM, rubbish bins etc.) are now closed. There is a new dinghy dock north of the marina in front of Indigo Restaurant.
Marinas:
The yacht harbor here is one of the largest in the Caribbean with 650 berths. Staff are bilingual. Whilst 220vt electricity is included in the berthing fee, water is reported to be expensive. WiFi is charged as extra. Pontoon gates are controlled by key card, however, they are seldom closed, so security is not ideal. Be sure to secure anything left on deck and your dinghy and associated gear at all times.

Security:
Dinghy and outboard thefts continue to be reported from this anchorage as well as from boats in the marina and from the Mango dinghy dock. In the latest incident, several dinghies tied at up the dinghy dock in St. Anne were slashed in an overnight vandalism attack. (see security reports).
