Riga - Transport & Travel

Aug 03, 2014

Riga drivers seem to have a death wish and aren't pedestrian-friendly. Walk defensively.

The Riga International Airport, which has flights to most European cities, is located seven kilometers from the city. Tel:+371 7207009

From Riga’s railway station there are routes to all the major towns in Latvia. The Central Railway Terminal is located at Stacijas Laukums. For information about train schedules call 075 (07:00-22:00hrs) or Tel: 232134 There are connections to all the neighbouring countries. The main route to Western Europe runs via Warsaw, Vilnius and Berlin. Information Tel: 233095. Train services, unfortunately, still have a strong Soviet flavour.

Taxis:-

As a general rule, the quickest way to catch a cab is to flag one down. Also, avoid taxi stands in front of major hotels. They tend to charge more than average. In all taxis, always make sure the meter is actually running. Otherwise, the driver will just approximate, inevitably in his own favour. The tariff is 0.30 lats during the day and 0.40 lats at night from 22:00 to 06:00. More and more taxis accept credit cards; look for your card’s sticker in the window, but be wary of fraudulent usage. Some suggested taxi services: Bona-M: tel. 800-5050.
