Riga - Docking

The approach to Riga is via the river Daugava. The river is wide and the stream weak, so it is possible to sail the 12 kilometres (eight miles) up to the centre, but it is a busy commercial waterway. Watch out for unlit moorings.

Call traffic control (Riga Radio) on VHF channel 16 and 09.

There are several yacht clubs in the city, but some of them are situated far from the centre. The most convenient, is the “Andrej Osta”, on the east side of the river, behind the ferry terminal and just downstream of the bridge.

When cruising in the Bay of Riga, unmarked fishing nets are a constant hazard.
