Many Irish harbours and marinas are right in or next to town, making walking easy. In small towns, just ask at the marina office, harbourmaster, or a pub - locals are very helpful and often know the best (and fastest) way to get you somewhere.
Cycling is popular and practical in coastal towns. Some marinas or hostels rent bikes, and in bigger towns you’ll find bike hire shops.
Taxis are widely available in towns and tourist areas, less so in remote west-coast villages (you may need to call one from a nearby town). In small places, the local taxi driver is often also the go-to person for fuel runs, supermarket trips etc. Prices are reasonable by European standards, but late night or long rural trips can add up.
Ireland has a good national and regional bus network connecting most towns. In rural areas, buses may be infrequent (a few per day), so check timetables and plan around them.
The rail network is comfortable and reliable.
Renting a car is very common and often the most flexible option, especially on the west coast. Driving is on the left.
There are regular ferries to offshore islands (e.g., Aran Islands, some west-coast islands). Some harbours have small local boat services for short hops or island access.
