Puerto Ayora (Academy Bay) - Fuel & LPG

Feb 23, 2024

See details re. Restrictions on Fuel here.

Diesel fuel and water are occasionally difficult to obtain, so it is advisable to arrive with full tanks and not expect to find too much in the islands. It has also been reported that fuel may be dirty.

Larger quantities of diesel can be obtained at the dock at the military base at Baltra (Seymor) used by the local excursion boats, but this must be arranged in advance with an agent, and permission to proceed there must be obtained from the port captain in Puerto Ayora. Small quantities can be bought from the petrol station on Avenida Padre Julio Herrera, close to the market, and taken to the boat in jerrycans.

Propane bottles cannot be filled locally and have to be sent to the mainland and as this may take some time, it is better not to resort to this solution unless in dire need.

Gas (Cooking)
