Provisions

Supermarkets – Provisioning on Isabela is a bit hit-and-miss. Supply boats are scheduled regularly every 15 days or so.

Albertros.net stocks a reasonable amount of items and is a good place to buy fresh produce when the supply boat comes in. Open daily from 0700 – 2200. Located at the northern end of Via Fragata. Also has WiFi.

Supermercado Insular usually has a good fresh fruit and vegetable selection. On via Gaviotin and Terro Real.

A popular option with cruisers is to arrange a trip to a local farm where the farmer will cut whatever fruit and veggies are in season (JP can help organize this). Taxis charge $10 an hour and wait. You can also have lunch while doing this.

The town has several shops with basic foodstuffs and some vegetables and fruit, some imported from the mainland, some local. Fresh fruit and veg. do vary in quality.

There is one small store – Danielita’s – that gets fresh fruits and vegetables flown in once every two weeks and will take your order for something special if you are there at the right time (order by Friday for a Monday or Tuesday delivery).

The fresh produce market is quite disappointing except for local produce such as bananas, watermelons, grapefruit, oranges, and eggs.

Butcher – Air-conditioned butcher shop run by Mercedes (just beyond Albatros.net – on the right by the bus stop just past the triangle and grocery store). Beef and chickens are available and more.

Bakery – Panaderia Frigata, is open 6-9 AM, and 4-7 PM. Have wholemeal “integral” bread, if you get there early enough.

Laundry

There are now two laundries on the main beach road.

Concha de Perla Lavanderia – short walk inland from the embarcadero. Cost US$1.50/kg, 24hr return.

Lavanderia Jordan – Wash, dry, fold. Cost US$2/kg.

    Reported by Karsten Staffeldt:
A Danish yacht just arrived Villamil without a prior Autographo and requested a transit call. Had a clearance from Panama with next port Marquesas. Appointed
de Soto as an agent, granted a 20 days stay no problems but a very extensive inspection of the yacht, all equipment and stores/provisions on board. Also reported quite expensive – the total cost close to US$ 1000.

    Data Entry1 says:

A new Port Captain was appointed in Puerto Villamil mid-March 2014, and to begin with, was interpreting the rules differently and not permitting boats without an Autographo to clear-in there. However, this has now been resolved and boats without an Autographo can once more clear-in at Isabela and be granted a one-island 20-day stay.
