Description:
Monte Cristi is located approximately 100NM west of Puerto Plata, on the northwestern tip of the country, about 10 miles from the border with Haiti.
The quiet town itself is two miles inland, but there is no problem getting a lift there. The town of Monte Cristi is a beautiful and isolated town, which the residents say is "the town that the government forgot", as it is not easy to reach by land.
The Spanish spoken in Monte Cristi is closer to European Spanish.
