Algarrobo - Local Customs

Nov 04, 2023

Description:

This is a popular summer resort in central Chile. It lies about 25NM south of Valparaiso. The sheltered marina here makes this port a useful stop when cruising between San Antonio and Valparaiso.

The town center of Algarrobo is fairly small with a population of only 12,000.

Isla Pajeros Ninos is a bird sanctuary populated by a variety of birds , ranging from Peruvian Pelicans to Humbolt Penguins, and otters.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

Do not mistake Club de Yates de Algarrobo for Cofradia Nautica del Pacifico. The former has no marina.

The approach to the marina at Cofradia Nautica is straightforward. Avoid Rocas Farallones close northward. In settled weather, local yachts pass between there and Isla Pajaros Ninos. Do not cut the corner having passed the fairway buoy inward bound - there is a small unlit pole between the buoy and the north breakwater.

Cruiser Highlights:

Marina, good provisioning, nice beachfront with restaurants, lovely beaches to the south, bird sanctuary.

Position:

33°23′28″S, 71°41′34″W
