Muara is situated on the northern coast of Borneo, at the mouth of the Brunei River. The town is approximately 27 km from Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. Situated on the extreme eastern tip of the land forming the northern shore of Brunei Bay, Muara is an important port for Brunei being its only deep-water one.
