Getting cash from ATMs can be difficult. Many do not work and all close at 10 pm. The ones at the Banco do Brazil is usually the most reliable. They are all inside and never on the street. There is a limit on the amount withdrawn which can be as low as US$70 over a weekend.
Money and travelers cheques can be exchanged at Rio de Janeiro International Airport, AMEX Copacabana in Avenida Atlantica, Banco do Brazil and numerous places in the tourist area.
