The city of Recife maintains offices/kioskes at the main touristic points, where you can find tri-lingual staff (English, Spanish and Portuguese), free maps and other assistance.

It is worth watching the carnival at Olinda, 4 miles N of Recife. It starts about 40 days prior to Easter Day. Olinda is a UNESCO world heritage site and original settlement.
Shopping
With the typical Latin American system of street stalls there are plenty of places to shop, however, there is one of the biggest malls in the world in Recife.
Recife. Rua Pe Carapuceiro in Boa Viagem. All buses for a downtown stop here. Largest shopping complex in Brazil. 480 shops. Everything from large Bom Preco supermarket to department stores.
RioMar. Everything from hairdressers to restaurants, supermarket, to department stores.
