For departure clearance in San Pedro, immigration asked me to pay a boarding fee of BZD$ 100 and then BZD$ 20 per person (which is the regular border fee) Total for two was BZD$ 180. I probably should’ve gone directly to port authority and skipped immigration

CHECKING IN AT SAN PEDRO BELIZE

San Pedro is the success story of Belize combining high end resorts with the crowded old town, (the airport is also in the middle of the town…) and keeping the shops, bars and restaurants feeling like local and characterful businesses. Also the best stocked chandlery I have seen in the Caribbean, Captain Sharkies, next to airport.

The pass is passable, at least by this 56ft Sundeer, in 20 knot NW. Just keep on the exact approach of 318 True to the centre of the pass at N17.54.36 W87.57.56. Leave the central yellow buoy downwind and turn at the mark to 355 True into the lagoon. Anchor before you reach town off the thatched roofs of Raymon’s resort in 2.5m.

Immigration (no visa quibbles for Asian crew for a change) and Customs are now next to the airport, and are free. They will call BAHA for you for a health inspection, normally on board but in fact just a form to fill in, cost US$25. Finally a $20 taxi down the island to the port authority portacabin for marine clearance. $50 for clearance and $2.50 a day for your time in Belize.

Then you are free for an initial 30 days to see all the islands and reefs, unless you draw more than 7 1/2 ft, in which case do not come….

We must rush, crayfish season finishes in 3 weeks time in mid February.
