Description:

Ambrym’s main attractions are the two twin active volcanoes of Marum and Benbow.   This island’s tropical vegetation and black sand is iconic along with the Lonwok Lake Crater and local kava bars.

Olal is not in any of the cruising guides or pilot books and is therefore seldom visited by cruisers to Vanuatu.

Cruiser Highlights:

Villagers will take visitors on hikes through tropical vegetation and to their villages where they willingly share local kastom. There are a number of festivals during the year including the Yam, Magic and Back to my Roots festivals which are the most frequented.

The GLYWO500 fleet which visited in 2023, anchored in front of Nopul village and were greeted by chief “Machine’s brother and the small community, receiving a warm welcome.

Olal village is about a 50 minute walk or 15 minutes in the back of a 4x4 pickup taxi to Olal community where the villages will put on some traditional dances for visitors.
