Red Hook: Vessup/ Muller Bay - Local Customs

Feb 19, 2020

Description:

Red Hook is a town on the east side of St Thomas located at the head of Magens and Vessup Bays - a combination of a wide bay with a white sand beach and long narrow bay that contains a marina and moorings. It's a quieter alternative to Charlotte Amalie, but because the anchorage is exposed, it's probably not comfortable for a long stay unless you enter the marina.

Cruiser Highlights:

A popular beach for swimming; hiking on the nature trail. The area also includes IGY's American Yacht Harbor, a full-service marina  Services include grocery stores, restaurants, bars, offices and banks.  There is a ferry that goes between here and St. John.  The beaches and beach bars in the area are well known.  Sapphire Beach is to the north of the harbor.

Entrance notes or cautions:

Navigation buoys are in place and are current.

Position:  18 19"81' N, 64 50"54' W (Entrance to bay)
