Coral Bay - General Info

Feb 10, 2020

Description:

Coral Bay is a large, protected harbour in a bowl surrounded by mountains on St John's east side. It is known as the “other” town on St. John, quite the quirky opposite to bustling Cruz Bay, with many residents sailors who live on their boats in the Harbor.

The bay has a wide entrance and although it can be crowded with long term and live-aboard boats, most people find space. For more information see Related User Comments.

Cruiser Highlights:

A laid back anchorage that's located outside of the National Park--so it has some limitation onshore services. The "Skinny Legs Bar" is a popular meeting spot for cruisers; walking trails out of Coral Bay are numerous and hikers are often joined by wild donkeys; a bus to Cruz Bay is available. Entrance notes or cautions:

There were a lot of boats sunk in the hurricanes of 2017, and there still may be some debris on the bottom. The outer bays may be better than Coral Bay harbour.

Position:

18° 20'26"N, 64° 42'38"W (bay entrance)
