Marina, Siam Royal View Resort

North Koh Chang

The new marina located at the NW end of the island in Ao Khlong Son is part of the Siam Royal View resort complex.

The approach channel is shallow. Boats with a draft up to 1m can pass the channel at all states of the tide. Those with a deeper draft should wait for mid or high tide.

The channel is clearly marked with buoys. When entering from the sea into the marina, keep the green buoys on your right and the red buoys on your left.

Once in the marina, there is the depth of at least 4m, which after tidal change leaves adequate clearance. A pilot service is available via CH 16 to guide captains unfamiliar with the area safely into the marina.

The local village nearby has laundry service, scooter hire, a basic hardware store, and restaurants.  Over the hill (big hill) is White Sands beach area which is the main tourist area, which you can get to by taxi truck.

South Koh Chang

There are two marinas/docking facilities at the southern end of the island, at Salak Phet Bay: Island View Marina with room for approx. 10 boats, and one other that does not permit sleeping on board the boat. However, there is good anchoring elsewhere in the bay.

West Koh Chang

There are several anchorages off the towns along the west coast where there are provisions, bars, and restaurants as well as banks and some other services.

There is a ferry service to the mainland.

    Data Entry2 says:

We, Blue Jay, have been at Island View Marina, Salak Pet, at the South of Koh Chang for 4 months. This is a pier with power and water at a cost of B5,000 a month. It’s quiet and peaceful with great views of the islands. Room for about 10 boats. There is also another marina here, but they are more expensive and do not allow staying on board.

    Data Entry2 says:

Reported by Martina & Reinhard Model:
Following information which might be interesting to other sailors (October 2017):

Our yacht flies the Malaysian flag, my wife and crew, as well as myself, are Austrian citizens, we both have one-year non-O visas for Thailand.

Coming from Terengganu, Malaysia, we cleared in at Koh Samui (my wife as a passenger). In Koh Samui, I tried to get information about the requirements for departing to Europe by plane whilst leaving the yacht in Thailand. Immigration on Koh Samui was unable to give me any information and told me to ask at Customs. Customs explained several times (including the boss of the desk-officer), that there is no requirement. They said, “Just take your luggage and travel home“.

After arriving in Koh Chang, we contacted the Laem Ngop Immigration office. Here we were told about the correct procedure which is as follows:
    – Bring ALL required documents to the Immigration office – in paper-copy (Passport, contract with marina, plane ticket incl. return-flight).
    – Pay a deposit of THB 20.000 which will be refunded on your return to Thailand back at the Immigration office.
    – I received an envelope which I had to hand over to the Immigration officer at the airport on departure.

Everything was clear, smooth and without any needs of discussion.
